Meet You in the Middle
This painting is a composite of an encounter we had with a pair of Pileated woodpeckers in Griffith Woods. Each woodie came to the tree in turn but stuck to their own preferred side. I tried to capture them together in an almost mirror like pose. My husband is a wildlife photographer and is a source of many of my wildlife paintings (https://www.albertanaturephotography.com/) and he captured their images for me to use.
Contemplating
This painting was inspired by a lovely photo captured by my husband of the male Gorilla Kakinga. Sadly Kakinga died shortly after the photo was taken and his passing inspired me to create this piece. What drew me to this was how I interpreted the expression in his eyes, that with the way his finger is scratching under his chin I imagined he was thinking "What do we have here then..." as he gazed at the people watching him.

Day at the Beach - River Otter
During a visit to Vancouver my husband and I were walking around Stanley Park when we saw a small crowd watching 3 River Otters playing in the sea. The young Otters were in and out of the water, amusing themselves with the Kelp that was close to the shore as well as diving down to catch small fish. They then tumbled back to the shore to take a brief rest under the steps before rushing off again to play in the bay. This particular Otter was much less shy than its siblings and sat in the sun.
