The face of a Lemur

Hiding - Snow Leopard

I love going to the zoo which is a great source for a wildlife fan like me. It gives me an opportunity to encounter creatures I would otherwise have no opportunity to see in the wild. The Snow Leopards are a particular favourite, despite their tendency to keep a low profile. I have a goal to paint one resident of every species in the zoo.

Contemplating

This painting was inspired by a lovely photo captured by my husband of the male Gorilla Kakinga. Sadly Kakinga died shortly after the photo was taken and his passing inspired me to create this piece. What drew me to this was how I interpreted the expression in his eyes, that with the way his finger is scratching under his chin I imagined he was thinking "What do we have here then..." as he gazed at the people watching him.
